Corvallis Police Respond to Numerous Calls on Halloween Weekend

The Halloween Weekend has classically been one of the busiest weekends for the Corvallis Police Department, and this year was no exception. Officers worked enhanced patrol shifts in anticipation of increased call loads and responded to over 400 calls for service from Friday afternoon to Monday morning. Our officers responded to over 50 complaints of loud parties, assaults, fights, and disturbances. In one incident, an unknown suspect(s) stole a large construction reader board that displayed educational messaging about celebrating Halloween in a safe and legal manner.  Officers recovered the reader board undamaged in the 2000 block of NW Tyler Ave.

While many of the calls officers responded to were either minor in nature or common for a busy weekend, there were some exceptions. On 10/31/21 at approximately 12:33 AM, officers responded to a large party in the 900 block of SW E Ave. The callers were reporting a fight occurred and people heard gunshots. As the officers were arriving, masses of people were leaving the area making it difficult to locate witnesses, victims, or suspects. Investigating officers were able to determine no one was injured, though a gun had likely been discharged in relation to the incident.

Approximately an hour later, officers patrolling the area of SW Western Blvd and SW Grove St heard what they believed to be gunshots in the area. Again, investigating officers searched the area, confirmed there were no injuries, though a gun had likely been discharged in the area. Both of the incidents are under active investigation by Corvallis Police Detectives.

The Corvallis Police Department is committed to public safety and we extend our appreciation and gratitude to all of the public safety professionals who worked together to handle this large volume of calls. Our officers and detectives will continue to investigate the incidents from this weekend, with the goal of identifying and arresting those individuals who detracted from the safety of our community.

Note: At this time there is no additional information available related to these incidents. Any updates on the investigation will be disseminated via a press release at a later date.
