Porter Park New Playground Project

Porter Park New Playground COMPLETED

The new Porter Park Playground was COMPLETED October 23, 2022

October 17, 2022 - The construction for the new children’s playground at Porter Park, 1895 NW Hayes Ave., is complete. The Corvallis Parks & Recreation Department celebrated the re-opening of the playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Sunday, October 23 at the park.

The event included remarks by former City Councilor now County Commissioner Nancy Wyse, who originally championed this project and helped the Parks & Recreation Department successfully apply for and receive grant funds in 2020 from the State of Oregon to upgrade the playground, and current Ward 6 City Councilor Laurie Chaplen, who has continued to help engage the community and advocate for park improvements in her neighborhood. Parks & Recreation staff  recognized the Kiwanis Club of Corvallis Sunrisers, a local sponsor who contributed to the project when the costs of equipment and labor soared beyond the original budget due to the current economic variables.

The new playground has two separate structures with shade toppers geared towards different age groups: a smaller one for tots ages 2-5 and a larger structure for kids ages 5-12. New swings were installed along with new surfacing of engineered wood fiber that meets current safety and accessibility standards.
