Corvallis Firefighters Respond to Shed on Fire

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Monday, December 4, the Corvallis Fire Department responded to a report of an active structure fire in the 5700 block of NW Oak Creek Road just outside the Corvallis city limits but within the Corvallis Rural Fire Protection District.

When firefighters arrived, they found a detached shop and shed on fire. The shop was located within 10 feet of an occupied single-family dwelling. Firefighters quickly attacked the fire with a single fire engine. As there were no fire hydrants in the area, water tenders responded to provide additional firefighting water. Four fire engines, two water tenders and a medic unit staffed by 19 firefighters responded to the fire.

Fire crews were able to quickly stop the fire spread and contain the fire to the shed and shop area prior to it spreading to the residence. The shed sustained significant fire damage and the shop sustain moderate fire damage. There were no injuries reported to either firefighters, residents or their two dogs.

The fire was discovered by a passerby who stopped and knocked on the residents door to alert them to the fire prior to reporting the fire.

The residents were able to return to their dwelling after the fire was extinguished.

The fire is currently under investigation but is believed to be accidental involving a small refrigerator.
