Subscribe to the Rental Housing Quarterly e-Newsletter.  Sign-up online to receive a quarterly newsletter that addresses the most common questions received in the past few months, statistics regarding Special Response Notices (SRNs) and Livability Code issues, as well as upcoming landlord trainings and events.

Stay on top of SRNs at your rental properties.  The City of Corvallis Police Department posts a list of properties where Special Response Notices (SRN) are issued on their Facebook page every Tuesday.  SRNs are issued for a variety of violations, all of which concern the behavior of the tenants or others on the property.  

Establish best practices with your peers.  Several organizations exist to help landlords and property managers stay in touch about emerging trends, current laws, and to educate on landlord/tenant law.

Linn-Benton Rental Housing Association (LBRHA) is a membership based, non-profit organization of landlords who own rental property in Albany, Corvallis, Lebanon, Sweet Home, Philomath and other communities in the Central Willamette Valley. LBRHA offers educational meetings, seminars, and newsletters that are open to both members and non-members.

Oregon Rental Housing Association (ORHA) and MultiFamily Northwest are membership based organizations that offer meetings across the state and produce a newsletter for landlords and property managers. Both organizations also participate in legislative initiatives.

Know your responsibilities under the Oregon Landlord/Tenant laws.  The Oregon Legislature frequently makes changes to the state’s landlord/tenant law.  As a landlord, you must know and understand changes to Chapter 90.  After the legislative session ends, consider seeking out a class to learn and incorporate these changes in your processes.  The Oregon Rental Housing Association and Multifamily NW are two organizations that offer this type of class.
