link to Leaf Collection ProgramThe City of Corvallis works in partnership with Allied Waste Services to collect leaves from city streets during the Fall Leaf Collection Program. This year, leaf collection and street sweeping might fall on different days.

The 2009 Fall Leaf Collection program begins Monday, October 26, 2009, and will run through Friday, December 18, 2009. Piles of leaves are collected by Allied Waste on the day of your normal garbage pick-up. For leaf collection questions and concerns, call Allied Waste at 541-754-0444.

Additional sweeping will occur twice a week on arterials, collectors and other streets that have bike lanes. In order to keep up with the high volume of leaves, sweepers will be working on swing shift during November and December.

Holiday Tree Collection

Holiday tree collection will start December 26, 2009, and end January 15, 2010.

Leaf Collection Reminders

During the Leaf Collection Program, residents are encouraged to participate by gathering leaves from their property and piling them in the street at least 12 inches away from the curb to allow for storm water runoff. Residents living on streets with curbside bike lanes are encouraged to use yard debris containers for leaf disposal. Yard debris containers are available from Corvallis Disposal and are picked up every other week on the same day as your garbage collection.

The Fall Leaf Collection Program is the only time leaves may be deposited in the street. At no time may grass, limbs, or other debris be deposited in the street. Allied Waste and City employees will not pick up piles of combined limbs and leaves. Please use yard debris containers for these items at all times.

Please keep all yard debris containers, garbage cans, and recycling bins out of the street at all times. These can be hazardous to bicycles and vehicles, as well as blocking drainage and preventing street sweepers from cleaning the street.

Here are some reminders to assure the success of the Leaf Collection Program:

  • Rake leaves into the street no sooner than the day before pickup — leaves scattered by weather and traffic create driving, bicycling and pedestrian hazards and cause street flooding by blocking storm drains.
  • Leaves blown into the street by leaf blowers must be piled and not scattered into the travel lanes or bike lanes.
  • Avoid raking leaves into curbside bike lanes. Use a yard debris cart instead.
  • Leave a distance of one foot (12") between leaf piles and the curb so storm water can run freely.
  • Make sure leaves do not block catch basins or storm drains.
  • Avoid parking vehicles near leaf piles, as the equipment will not be able to collect leaves blocked by vehicles.
