Welcome to the Community Development Department PDF Print E-mail

It is the mission of the Community Development Department to facilitate the definition, interpretation and implementation of the community's vision for Corvallis. We do this by:

  • Assisting the community in: a) defining a vision for Corvallis; b) translating the vision into a Comprehensive Plan; and c) implementing the Comprehensive Plan through the Land Development Code and other development standards;
  • Developing, implementing, or participating in initiatives that achieve community enhancement goals;
  • Interpreting and applying Land Development Code standards and appropriate Comprehensive Plan policies to proposed and approved development projects;
  • Interpreting and applying construction codes and standards to approved projects;
  • Implementing programs to assist lower income households with their housing needs; and
  • Implementing the City's social services and economic development policies and programs.

The following organizational mission statement was developed for City departments engaged in development regulations compliance.

We will facilitate development processes consistent with the community's vision by:
* administering standards in a balanced, consistent, efficient, professional and timely manner.
* exchanging information openly, honestly, and respectfully.

The mission was created with input from staff in Community Development, Fire, Parks and Recreation, and Public Works. Discussion areas included both internal and external customers, stakeholders, values, results, purposes, and business interests. The resulting statement provides an overarching guiding philosophy for how the City administers development review programs.
