The Utility Customer Services work group in the Financial Services Division of the Finance Department is responsible for billing customers monthly for Water, Wastewater, Storm Water services and a Transportation Maintenance Fee. Work includes service connections and disconnections, monthly water meter reading, billing, collection of current amounts owed, and pursuit of past due amounts.

Utility Billing staff provide accurate billing services for nearly 16,000 utility customers each month, which results in $16,884,003 in total annual revenue for the City's Water, Wastewater, Storm Water utilities and the Transportation Maintenance Fee program. Staff are responsible to:

• read all 15,800 water meters each month;
• start and stop utility services when customers move, including turning water on/off at the meter, obtaining final service/new service meter reads, and establishing/closing the customer's billing account;
• review unusual consumption patterns based on a typical meter reads or customer complaints, assist customers in finding leaks, and follow the Municipal Code in adjusting customer accounts for water leaks;
• prepare monthly statements, collect amounts due, notify delinquent customers of the intent to disconnect service, disconnect accounts for non-payment when necessary, and pursue collection activity for unpaid amounts due to the City; and
• assist customers with information about their bills, payment options, and sources of payment assistance for qualified customers.
