Location & Directions The Lions Picnic Shelter is located on the east side of Avery Park and Natural Area. This Avery Park map (PDF) may be useful in helping you locate the shelter inside the park. From 99W South, turn onto Avery Ave and continue to the stop sign, just over the railroad tracks. Continue straight through the intersection and you will see the Lions Picnic Shelter immediately on your right. Or from Philomath Blvd (the Hwy 20/34 bypass), you can enter Avery Park and Natural Area by exiting at the 15th Street stoplight and crossing the bridge to the park. Veer to the left and follow Avery Park Drive past the historic locomotive to a four-way stop. The Lions Picnic Shelter will be on your right. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Facility Description & Capacity The Lions Picnic Shelter features two covered areas, one with kitchen facilities and restrooms, and the other with a 93' long table. In addition to the long table, there are generally 10 more standard picnic tables in the kitchen area. The Lions Picnic Shelter features:
There are four handicap accessible restrooms at the building, for use by all park visitors. The shelter is within view of the park's historic locomotive and there is play equipment in the shelter's grassy area. Avery park offers ample parking. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nearby Park Features The Lions Picnic Shelter sits in Avery Park and Natural Area which features 75 acres of natural areas, sports fields, picnic shelters and varied play equipment areas. The nearby historic steam locomotive and an art sculpture called the dinosaur bones are favorite places for kids to climb and explore. A walking/jogging trail winds through the park and long Mary's River. The extensive horseshoe pit area is within easy walking distance of the Lions Picnic Shelter. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alcohol / Sound Considerations Alcohol is permitted in the shelter area only with an approved Alcohol Permit. See the permit fee below. Alcohol permits are only issued to individuals aged 21 or older; ID is required. Amplified sound is allowed with an approved Sound Permit. See the permit fee below. Renters will be given a copy of the City's codes regarding alcohol and/or amplified sound in public places and must agree to abide by these codes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

NOTE ABOUT FEES: All fees are subject to change without notice. Additional fees/requirements may apply, especially for activities or events outside of a standard group gathering. Our staff can help you determine if these fees apply to your event. REFUND POLICY: The alcohol and sound permit fees are non-refundable. Refunds for rental fees will not be given if the written request is received less than five (5) business days before the date of the event. NO refunds are granted due to inclement weather. When a rental fee refund is requested and approved, a $10 processing fee will be deducted from the amount refunded. Availability & Reservations The Lions
Picnic Shelter may
be rented from April 1st to October 31st each year; it
is rented in
4-hour time blocks: The shelter can be reserved up to one year from the date of your event. Call Parks & Recreation at 541-766-6918, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm to check availability and hold your reservation. Renters must complete permits and pay in full within 1 week of reserving the space, or within 2 business days of the event, whichever comes first.
