Get There Another Way Week!

During the week of May 24th - 28th, leave your car at home! Take the bus, walk, bicycle, telecommute, skate, or share the ride with a friend. Use of these alternate ways to travel can reduce your personal carbon footprint. By choosing an alternate way to travel one day, each week can reduce your carbon footprint due to driving your car alone by 20%. You will save money, the planet and your waistline.

City businesses are encouraging their employees to 'get there another way' by donating fabulous prizes to anyone who tries an alternate way to travel. Employees who "Get There Another Way" are eligible to receive prizes through a citywide drawing. To enter, follow this link, print the brochure (or call Jo Morgan at 541-766-6916) and turn in your entry tickets to City Hall by 5 p.m. on June 2.

Happy Travelling!

The City of Corvallis encourages its citizens and visitors to reduce the number of trips made by single-occupancy vehicles ("SOVs"). Alternative modes of transportation, such as bicycling, buses, walking, skating, and carpooling or vanpooling, as well as telecommuting, can reduce traffic congestion and provide benefits to individuals and to the community:

  • Reduced traffic congestion and air pollution improve community livability.
  • Less traffic reduces the need for additional, expensive roadway construction projects.
  • Fewer vehicles on the road means less land is needed for parking facilities, allowing it to be used for open space or commercial and residential development.
  • Walking, bicycling and skating can improve health and well-being.

Oregon businesses can receive a state tax credit for projects that reduce energy used in transportation or invest in cleaner-burning transportation fuels. Non-profits and government agencies in Oregon can transfer their tax credit elegibility to a business or individual with Oregon tax liability. For more information on how your business or agency can receive tax credits, visit the Oregon Department of Energy website.
