Riverfront Commemorative Park Plazas: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Location & Directions The Riverfront Commemorative Park Plazas are located in the Riverfront Commemorative Park which runs parallel with 1st Street in downtown Corvallis, from as far south as B Avenue to as far north as Tyler Avenue. From downtown Corvallis, head east on any east-bound street between Jackson Avenue and Washington Avenue. The park will be in front of you where these streets dead end at 1st Street; the park sits between 1st Street and the Willamette River. The Jackson Plaza is the northern most plaza located at the end of Jackson Street. The Monroe Plaza is located at the end of Monroe Avenue, and the Howland Plaza is found at the end of Madison Street. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Facility Description & Capacity While there are no shelters at Riverfront Commemorative Park, there are three distinct plaza areas with views of the Willamette River. The area available for rent is the grassy area to the north of each plaza; the plazas themselves may not be reserved or blocked from public use. The plazas are best suited for fairs, exhibitions, and events that are open to the public rather than for private parties. Since the park was specifically designed to be a community gathering place, renters may NOT cordon off areas or block the public's right of way. Electricity is not available at the plazas and lighting is provided by area and street lights which automatically come on at dusk. Potable water is available via drinking fountains at either end of the park and in the Monroe Plaza. There are handicapped accessible restrooms at either end of the park for use by all park patrons. Due to the proximity of downtown businesses, parking is limited and we recommend car pooling. The Jackson Plaza is the northern most plaza located at the end of Jackson Street. It is the largest of the three plazas, able to accommodate up to 300 people. It features an artistic public fountain which is generally operational April 1st to October 31st. The public is invited to walk through or play in the fountain's jets of spraying water. The Jackson Plaza also features a life-sized sculpture entitled "The River of Life." The Monroe Plaza is the middle plaza, located at the end of Monroe Ave. This area can accommodate up to 150 people. It features stationary picnic tables, benches and a river overlook area. The Monroe Plaza also features a sculpture entitled "River Otters." The Howland Plaza is the southern most plaza, found at the end of Madison Street. This plaza is also appropriate for groups up to 150 people. It features rows of wall-like benches made from concrete and wood. The Howland Plaza also features a 9' stone sculpture carved from basalt and granite entitled, "Heart of the Valley." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nearby Park Features Riverfront Commemorative Park was designed as a "downtown showcase", combining commercial business, park use, and a celebration of the river's natural features. Interpretive monuments and signs are placed throughout the park. A 12' wide, 4,100' long multi-modal path runs along the riverfront connecting the plazas and continues south to the Eric Scott McKinley Skate Park, which is also maintained by Parks and Recreation. Over 22,000 square feet of pavers were used to create the Riverfront Commemorative Park and it is highlighted by more than 350 ornamental trees. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alcohol / Sound Considerations Since the Plazas are a non-designated site for alcohol consumption, a special permit requiring at least 30 days advance notice must be completed for permission to serve alcohol. See the permit fee below. Alcohol permits are only issued to individuals aged 21 or older; ID is required. Amplified sound is allowed with an approved Sound Permit. See the permit fee below. Renters will be given a copy of the City's codes regarding alcohol and/or amplified sound in public places and must agree to abide by these codes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
