Bikes on Buses PDF Print E-mail

Double your transportation alternatives with the Rack & Roll bike rack program!

Getting ON the Bus
1. Have your bike ready to load by removing any bags, tire pumps or water bottles that might fall off during the trip.
2. Allow departing riders to remove their bikes from the rack before you load yours.
3. Step from the curb to the front of the bus to load your bike onto the rack.
4. Pull the handle located on the middle-top of the bike rack to release the rack from its upright position (there are instructions on the rack).
5. Lift your bike onto the rack placing the wheels into the wheel slots (each slot is labeled for front and rear wheel).
6. Raise the support arm up and over the front tire. For BMX-style bikes, place the support arm over the bike's frame. Do not lock your bike to the rack.
Getting OFF the Bus
1. Let the driver know you'll be unloading your bike as you approach your stop. Be sure to use the front door to exit the bus.
2. Remove your bike before any boarding riders load their bikes.
3. Raise the support arm up and off the tire.
4. Lift your bike out of the rack.
5. Return the rack to its upright position if there are no other bikes loaded or people who need to use it.
6. Step away from the bus and let it pull away before you ride away on your bike.

Remember

  • It's your responsibility to load and unload your bike. Bus operators may not assist you.
  • Loading and unloading your bike quickly will ensure schedules are met, providing reliable transportation to all riders.
  • Bike rack availability is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Sorry, bikes are not allowed inside the bus.
